God's Family - Your Spiritual Home (Part 1)

Hello Readers,
It's a new month & we are exploring the theme: Family. Exclusive teachings and prayers for the Family will dominate our pupils this month of May. So, we enjoin you to come along and be blessed.

Every Church of God, irrespective of their denomination, is an extension of a nuclear family of Jesus Christ.

The God's family is the Church of God and it is your spiritual home. In fact, without undermining others, your spiritual family is the most important family you need in life. This is for the reason that some people are not privileged to have, know or enjoy a biological family.
By definition, Family is:

a basic social unit consisting of parents and their children, considered as a group, whether dwelling together or not: the traditional family.
a group of people related by blood or marriage.

There are two (2) basic types of families; Nuclear and Extended Family. Likewise, there are 2 categories of families: Physical (Biological) or Spiritual Family.

Every Church of God, irrespective of their denomination, is an extension of a nuclear family of Jesus Christ.
The God's family is the Church of God and it is your spiritual home. In fact, without undermining others, your spiritual family is the most important family you need in life. This is for the reason that some people are not privileged to have, know or enjoy a biological family. For example, the orphans, the prodigals, etc. However, such category of people can embrace genuine love in the God's family.

Fortunately, your family, either physical or spiritual, is determined by God. He plants you in the RIGHT FAMILY according to His purpose for your life. God plants you in a church or physical family because of certain things you are to learn or do.

1 Timothy 3:15 says" if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God's household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth."

The church is the pillar and base of the truth. In other words, the church is the base of every basic unit called Family.

The Church is a Family.

Family; chosen by God

You are ALL I have - my family

"..........But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."
Joshua 24:15b

As Christians, we ought to encourage ourselves to be kind family members, especially in the Church. Many people are looking for a family to join and not just a church.

Reflection: Let your lifestyle be kind to your fellow members inn the body of Christ, replicating the love of God to all mankind inside out, without deception.

A good united family works together as a team, thereby increasing their individual grace for the Kingdom of God. Are you part of this glorious team?

Benefits of God's Family

1. For encouragement & support. Jesus wants us to encourage one another.

"Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing". 1 Thessalonians 5:11

via Manifested Love. John 13:35; 1 John 2:9-11
via Togetherness. Hebrews 10:24-25
By polite spoken words. Ephesians 4:29
Cooperation [working together]. 1 Corinthians 3:9

2. To discipline one another. Accountability
God’s family must be a disciplined family.

"7 It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8 But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Hebrews 12:7-8

3. Identity
God wants us to know who we are and what we stand for as God’s Family.

Reflection: If you were asked, "Who are you?" what would you write down? What makes you different? 1 Peter 4:15-16

God wants us to realise that we are His children; we are Christians. We are part of God’s Family. Galatians 3:26-27 says "26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ."

4. Forgiveness
Jesus is willing to forgive everyone in the family who repents (turns away from evil).

Matthew 18:21-22 "Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times."

If we harbour unforgiveness then God can not and will not forgive us. Matthew 6:14-15

5. Security
God is our shield and wants us to feel fully secure in His family. Today, a lot of problems in the world are caused by biological families separating from God. Individuals from same or inter families conceding evil to another, neglecting God, inflicting others etc instead of seeing ALL AS ONE BIG FAMILY IN GOD.

Indirectly, divisions in the each families is passed on to the society. This should not be so. Homes, including the church should be proactive in making the world a safe place for all.

"Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever." 1 Timothy 5:8

Prayers:

Heavenly Father, thank you for positioning me in this family. I pray today, that you help me to be a good member in the body of Christ.
Dear God, please help me to amend and live peacefully with everyone around me, in my biological and spiritual family.
Dear God, please rebuild and heal the wounds in my family. Help us to fulfil your divine will.
Dear God, please water and establish my family in Jesus Name. Amen.
